Is Beyond Made in the USA?

Where Our Gear Comes From

One of the most frequently asked questions we get is, “Where does your gear come from? Is it made in the USA or not?” We’d like to take a minute to dive into this and give you the full breakdown.

AXIOS™

Expeditionary Origins & Early Efforts

The AXIOS system is BEYOND’s flagship layering system and where all our work began. Starting in 1996, we meticulously researched optimal design strategies and scoured all the available fabric technologies in the US. Every layer developed was then passed along to professional teams for rigorous testing in the harshest environments. We kept pushing AXIOS over the following years, reaching further and further for still-greater innovation in the American fabric tech with which it was built.

And then we hit a wall technologically.

AXIOS is, in essence, Beyond’s optimization of the fabric technology available in the US. We squeezed every last drop that we could, and began to be frustrated at limitations we were running into. We wanted to take our layering concept to the next level, to push it further still, to innovate even more, but after years of development and iteration and testing, we had simply run out of technological options domestically.

We’re proud of the work we did with AXIOS, and if you’d like to explore those layers check out our dedicated page for all our gear that’s Made in the USA.

KYROS™

Next-Level Tech & Global Horizons

Using AXIOS as the baseline, we cast a net globally for new technologies. Wherever the very best capabilities for expeditionary fabric solutions lay, that’s where we went. Using all that we’d learned with our first system and starting with a clean slate, we were able to implement all these new technologies to design a far more advanced system from the ground up. That globally sourced system is KYROS.

AXIOS is a complete system representing the single most technical answer to survival and expeditionary challenges using purely American technology. KYROS is a newer, more high-tech, and still growing system founded upon years of experience and a much more vast array of global technological options. We’re also pushing our KYROS gear to ever-higher standards of quality, safety, and ecological responsibility when it comes to manufacturing. We’re transitioning to insulation that’s 100% post-consumer recycled materials and/or biodegradable, and all our new layers are built with textiles certified by bluesign® and OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100. Our hope is that through KYROS, we can challenge the American market to innovate more and more.

Nothing excites us quite like KYROS. There’s a whole world of capabilities available to us now that we’re only just beginning to tap into, and we can’t wait to share with you what’s coming next.
